The 20 most useful Android smartphone apps of 2011

The Android Market may not have as many apps as the iPhone App Store yet, but there are still more than enough to be overwhelmed, and it continues to grow at a breakneck pace. To help you sort through them all, here is my latest list of the 20 most useful Android apps (this is an update of my 2010 Android list). I’ve also recently updated my list of the most useful iPhone apps and you’ll notice several of the same apps on both lists.
Remember that I primarily had business professionals in mind when making this list and also keep in mind that this is a snapshot in time. The Android platform is developing so quickly that I guarantee my home screen will look different a month from now.
Still, here’s my list of tried-and-true Android apps that I can highly recommend.

1. Google Voice

Google Voice is a service that is so useful I consider it one of the top benefits of Android itself. The service gives you a phone number that can ring to multiple places or devices and it allows you to access all of your voicemail and text messages from the Web. The Android app integrates even deeper. It can make outgoing calls look like they’re coming from your Google Voice number so that you can keep your real mobile number private.

2. Advanced Task Killer

One of the realities of having a multitasking mobile OS is that you have to manage your apps so that they don’t hurt performance or battery life. Advanced Task Killer (ATK) is my favorite on Android. It even comes with a widget that you can tap once to kill all open apps and you can also set up ATK to kill all apps at periodic intervals. Some people will argue that task managers are irrelevant and unneeded in Android, but I still prefer to use ATK.

3. Dropbox

Dropbox is a great cloud service that automatically syncs a folder of files between multiple computers (Windows, Mac, or Linux). This app extends Dropbox to Android and interacts with other apps (such as Documents To Go) to open the files. It allows you to access PDFs, image files, and business documents by simply dragging them to a folder on your computer and then you immediately have access to them from your mobile phone, once you have this app installed.

4. Evernote

Once you get used to typing on a virtual keyboard (and it honestly took me over a year to do it), then these devices are great for note-taking, and Evernote is a great note-taking app. It is similar to Dropbox in that it saves data locally but syncs it across all your machines and devices.

5. Taskos

There are plenty of to-do apps to choose from on Android but I now prefer Taskos because of the clean, easy, Android-friendly user experience. It also has a few extras that give it an advantage over apps. The biggest one is voice recognition, which lets you speak a task that the app turns into a to-do item (you might have to correct a word or two).

6. DroidAnalytics

For some reason Google doesn’t have an official app for Google Analytics (for either Android or iPhone). The best one I’ve found on Android is DroidAnalytics. Another good one is mAnalytics.

7. Documents To Go

The free version of Documents To Go offers a great little reader for Microsof Word and Excel files. You can upgrade to the full version (for $15) if you want to be able to create and edit files and add PowerPoint files to the mix. If you do want editing capability, I’d also recommend taking a look at QuickOffice.

8. Google Docs

If you mostly work with Google Docs (including uploading Microsoft Office files to your Google Docs repository) then the only app you’ll really need is the Google Docs app. It’s a nice mobile implementation of document management, although the one annoyance is that always open up files in a web browser rather than within the app itself, which would be a little smoother.

9. Tripit

I dig Tripit. It is by far the best app I’ve found for keeping track of all my travel itineraries. It runs on some great backend systems. You simply forward your confirmation emails for your flights, hotels, rental cars, and more to Tripit and it automatically organizes them into trips with all your details and confirmation numbers. Or, if you use Gmail, you can even use a plugin to automatically catch confirmation emails and turn them into Tripit trips.

10. Places

This is an awesome app for finding shops and services near your current location. From restaurants to medical facilities to taxis, this app is very accurate and takes advantage of the business information from Google Local. This app is better than the info you get from a GPS unit (or app) and better than any of the similar apps available on the iPhone. It’s also integrated into Google Maps.

Gruesome footage of a toddler falling victim to two successive hit-and-run accidents and then being ignored by many passers-by at the scene last week in southern China continued to galvanize the nation Monday, prompting a fierce debate on the state of morality in Chinese society.

A security camera captured the horrific incident last Thursday outside a hardware market in Foshan, Guangdong Province. Two-year-old Wang Yue was seen toddling in the middle of a narrow street and looking around, oblivious to a fast-approaching white van.

The disturbing video shows the van knocking the girl over. The driver briefly stops with the girl underneath the van, before continuing on, its rear tires slowly rolling over her small body. The girl is left barely moving in her own blood as several pedestrians and cyclists pass by.

Minutes later, another small truck drives over Wang without slowing down, the video shows. More passers-by walked, cycled or drove around her motionless body without stopping -- until a woman carrying a sack appeared 10 minutes after the initial collision. Dropping her sack, she quickly moved the girl to safety and went to look for help.

Wang remained in critical condition Monday afternoon in a military hospital in the nearby city of Guangzhou, her father told CNN.

"I'm still so worried," said Wang Chichang, who runs a hardware store in the Foshan market, as he waited for updates from doctors.

At the time of the accident, Wang was busy tending his shop while his wife was hanging laundry, and neither noticed their daughter had wandered outside, state media reported.

"I feel helpless and angry," the father said. "Had one passer-by stopped to help earlier, this whole thing wouldn't have been so tragic."

Police have caught and detained both drivers, state media reported. Wang, the father, told CNN that the van driver had earlier called to offer the family money, but refused to turn himself in.

The heroine in the video turned out to be a 58-year-old scavenger named Chen Xianmei.

"Blood was coming out her nose and mouth," Chen told local reporters. "I didn't understand why no one else had carried her from the street."

In emotional video posted online, the girl's wailing mother bows on her hands and knees, her forehead resting on the ground at Chen's feet -- a symbol of extreme deference to show the family's deep gratitude for her daughter's rescuer. The mother is inconsolable as loved ones lead her -- her body as limp as a rag doll's -- from the scene.

The grainy footage of the accidents went viral on Chinese Internet within minutes of posting. By Monday afternoon, it had become the most viewed topic on Sina Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, with more than 4 million tweets discussing the video.

"This kind of news sends chills down my spine every time," a user named "the silent wolverine" wrote. "We once believed in a world filled with love and were taught by the government on maintaining high moral standards -- but the cold reality just keeps flying in the face of our belief."

Echoing such sentiment, Wang's father said her tragedy is more than just personal.

"If our society continues to be like this, my child's case won't be the last one," he said.

While netizens directed their anger on the indifferent passers-by and lamented vanishing morality in society, many also see a glimmer of hope through Chen's action.

"The scavenger probably never imagined she was actually 'richer' than many of us," user "Van-stephen" commented on Weibo. "She follows her conscience, which many of us have already lost."

In recent years, assisting victims in traffic accidents or other emergency situations has become controversial in China. In an attempt to cover costly medical expenses, several senior citizens, injured in accidents that were their own fault, turned against people who helped them at the scene by suing the good Samaritans for compensation, according to state media.

Despite the potential trouble and some criticism that she was seeking fame, Chen appeared unfazed.

"I didn't think of anything at the time," she told local reporters. "I just wanted to save the girl."

Apple iPad 3

Susquehanna Financial analyst Jeff Fidacaro, Apple is sending the iPad 3 into production this quarter. Fidacaro told All Things Digital that he didn't know exactly how many iPad 3s Apple has ordered, but based on his "supply chain checks," he believes 600,000 to 1 million iPad 3 units will be built this quarter.

Fidacaro's claims are notable. As he told All Things Digital, Apple was supposed to produce between 11 million and 13 million iPads during the fourth quarter. Now, that range stands at 12 million to 14 million.

Of course, for consumers, the big question is when the iPad 3 will launch. Fidacaro would only commit to early 2012, which falls in line with Apple's past plans. Earlier this year, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company unveiled the iPad 2 in March.

However, not everyone is so quick to agree with the idea that Apple will launch the iPad 3 in early 2012. In August, The Linley Group, which follows the mobile processor industry, said that Apple is likely to bring the "A6" processor to the iPad 3. That processor will feature four cores instead of the dual-core A5 in the iPad 2. However, the Group said, it doesn't expect the A6 to be available in the iPad 3 until June 2012, at the earliest.

Of course, the only stakeholder that knows for sure is Apple. And as one might expect, the company has so far been unwilling to comment on the iPad 3. It also did not immediately respond to CNET's request for comment on the All Things Digital report.

VXLAN - Extended VLAN

The Virtual Extensible VLAN (VXLAN)standard proposed by Cisco and VMware this month will create logical networks -- or extended VLANs-- for long distance virtual machine (VM) migration across geographically dispersed data centers.VXLAN will ultimately enable the kind of long-distance segmentation necessary for multi-tenantcloud networks.
Cisco and VMware have already incorporated the proposed VXLAN standard into products, but theVXLAN draft, which was also co-authored by Cisco, VMware, Arista Networks, Broadcom Corporation,Citrix Systems and Red Hat Inc., awaits standardization by the Internet Engineering Task Force(IETF).

Why the need for the VXLAN standard?
VLANshave long been used to separate data streams, but the IEEE 802.1Q VLAN specification provides only4,094 VLAN identifiers. A top-of-rack switch may be connected to more than 40 servers. Each servermay support multiple VMs with each VM communicating on multiple VLANs. A data center may containmany racks so the total number of VLANs may exceed the 4,094 limit. In addition, VMs comprising asingle application may reside in geographically different data centers. These VMs must be connectedvia a Layer 2 network, so VLAN identifiers must be unique across geographies.

VXLAN standard isolates application data
TheVXLAN standard, outlined in this RFC draft, groups VLANsassociated with an application into a segment defined by a 24-bit identifier called a VXLAN NetworkIdentifier (VNI). As many as 16 million VNIs may be defined in any administrative domain andeach VNI may contain up to 4,094 VLANs. Customer data is kept separate because only VMs operatingwithin the same VNI can communicate.
The Layer 2 network visible to VMs is carried over a Layer 3 network in UDP packets. This enables datacenters to operate within different IP subnets. Only the Layer 2network is visible to VMs, so it's possible for a VM within an application to migrate from one datacenter to another without the change becoming visible to the relocating VM or any of the other VMscomprising the application.

Communicating between VMs in a VXLAN environment
VM software need not be modified to operate within a VXLAN environment. VNIs are assigned to theVMs operating on a server by a Virtual Tunnel End Point (VTEP). The VTEP resides within the serverhypervisor and generates the headers needed to specify the VNI and communicate across the Layer 3network.

To communicate with other VMs in the segment, a VM creates packets identical to the packets thatwould be created in a non-VXLAN, non-virtual environment. Packets consist of standard MAC frameswith an Ethernet header, source and destination MAC addresses, and Ethernet type. A VLAN tag isincluded if the VM utilizes multiple VLANs.
The VTEP supporting the VM then encapsulates the packet with an 8-byte VXLAN header. The headercontains a single-bit VXLAN flag, the 24-bit VNI and a total of 39 bits reserved for future use.The resulting packet is then enclosed in a UDP packet. The destination IP address is the address ofthe VTEP to which the packet will be sent. The source IP is the address of the sending VTEP.
The packet is then enclosed in an outer Ethernet packet with the destination MAC of either thedestination server or the router that will forward the packet.

Communication between VMs requires IP multicast
When a VM initiates communication with another VM, it operates just as it would in a non-VXLANenvironment. If the destination is on the same subnet, it generates an ARP request broadcast forthe destination. If they are on different subnets, it ARPs for the first hop router. The VTEPencapsulates the ARP request in VXLAN and UDP headers and sends the broadcast packet to theIP multicastgroup associated with the VXLAN segment to which the communicating VMs belong. Assignment ofsegments to IP multicast groups is done by the management layer.
The VTEP supporting the destination VM strips off the UDP and VXLAN headers and passes the ARPrequest to the VM, which then responds to the request. When the response reaches the sourceVTEP and VM, both VTEPs and VMs have learned the IP and MAC addresses needed to communicate. Subsequent communication travels VTEP to VTEP without need for multicast.
In some cases, VMs will need to communicate outside the VXLAN environment. A VXLAN gatewaystrips off the VXLAN and UDP headers and forwards the packet to the destination MAC specified inthe packet prepared by the VM. Neither the source VM nor the destination equipment needs to bemodified to take part in the interchange. A VXLAN gateway could be implemented in software or in aswitch or router.

World's Tiniest Video Camera

OMER, Israel, May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Medigus Ltd. (TASE: MDGS) has developed the world's smallest video camera - just 0.99 mm in diameter.

These miniature cameras are manufactured from materials suitable for human medical procedures. They are designed specifically for small-diameter disposable endoscopic devices, used in diagnostic and surgical procedures in regions of the anatomy where larger scopes are not viable. Medical fields in which such tools are required include: cardiology; orthopedics; gastroenterology; gynecology; otolaryngology, bronchoscopy and robotic surgery.

These cameras will be integrated into endoscopic devices developed and manufactured by the company, and also sold to third-party medical device manufacturers. Medigus will begin supplying camera samples in the coming weeks to US and Japanese companies which produce cardiology-related devices. The second generation cameras utilize advanced technology, notably the TSV (Through Silicon Via) method which enables miniaturization and reduction of mass-production costs. A dedicated 0.66x0.66 mm CMOS sensor provides high image resolution at 45,000 pixels. When manufactured and sold in large quantities, the costs are sufficiently low for the camera to be used in disposable devices, eliminating the need for costly, time-consuming and potentially hazardous device sterilization.

The global miniature camera market for disposable endoscopic devices is estimated at 4M units in 2011 and 7M in 2015.

After last week’s impressive debut by John Flanagan, it seems only fitting this week to take a closer look at the latest young player getting a chance with the first team, with an every-touch (and tackle) compilation of Jack Robinson1 against Arsenal.

It wasn’t actually Jack Robinson’s debut in the Premier League. That came two managers back, when he was only sixteen, in the final two minutes against Hull City in the final game of last season’s Premier League campaign. It made him the youngest player to ever play in the league for Liverpool, a record that he still holds though appearances by the even younger Raheem Sterling and Suso in this year’s pre-season left Robinson only the third youngest player to get any kind of run out with the first team.

Right off the top, Robinson’s introduction provides a reminder of how well Kenny Dalglish deals with the younger players from the academy, players he in many cases spent time with during the two seasons spent in an ambassadorial and player development role after Rafa Benitez brought him back to the club. It’s a connection seen again later in the match when taking John Flanagan aside after the fullback’s collision with Jamie Carragher led to the stand-in captain being stretchered off the pitch in a neck brace.

As for Robinson, though his feet perhaps gave lie to early nerves with a couple of slips on the Emirates turf, he quickly found his feet on the way to effectively shutting down England regular and exceptionally pacy headless chicken Theo Walcott. In Walcott, Arsenal have a winger whose end product may at times disappoint, but his pure pace can never be doubted, and with the significant Premier League experience that he does have it would have been entirely reasonable for fans to fear for the young Liverpool fullback’s hide.

At the other end of the field, it has to be noted that Robinson didn’t get down the pitch all that often to help provide attacking width against Arsenal. In the end that is of course one of a fullback’s more important jobs–at times his most important job, depending on the system–but for a young kid making his first major appearance on the road against the number two side in the table and with a pacy winger up against him, it’s hard to find much to fault regardless. In any case, even if he wasn’t especially adventurous, he at least looked far more comfortable on the ball than Danny Wilson has when occasion has seen the center back forced to fill in on the outside. That does suggest there’s reason to hope for the future at left back, perhaps even for the near future against less attacking sides at Anfield. Perhaps even for when Birmingham comes to visit on Saturday, with there being every chance that both of Liverpool’s new pair of fullbacks who can’t grow a beard between them will start.

For both Robinson and Flanagan, though, people would do well to remember just how young they are, and that they’re at a position that often doesn’t see players really hit their peak until they’ve been around for another entire decade. Both of them have shown huge promise, though, and shown that in a pinch they might even have it in them to do a job for the club already. Still, to expect and pressure either one of them to be able to contribute both consistently and over the long term, at the kind of level Liverpool would need to be a top-four side moving forward, would likely end up doing more harm than good to each player’s long term development.

However, that’s more a worry for the summer than for right now, so in the meantime, here’s to hoping for a few more quality performances by the youngsters before the season comes to an end.

With so much talk of tactics, formations, and battles in midfield earlier today, here’s something a little more visceral: video of John Flanagan’s debut against Manchester City. It seemed an impressive display at the time, the 18-year old kid filling in on the big stage at an area of desperate need for Liverpool and hardly putting a foot wrong all match.

He was comfortable on the ball, comfortable passing in tight spaces, made a few crunching tackles, got forward, and even threw in a few tricks for good measure. He also handled Mario Balotelli with ease. Though of course even a bib can handle Mario Balotelli with ease, and somebody like Sami Nasri for Arsenal might be a rather different story, especially with the gunners getting a week to prepare knowing Flanagan’s likely to start come Sunday.

And if Flanagan does start, it will be an even tougher task than City was, and not just because he will likely go up against a more experienced player who will target him. By most accounts, Flanagan didn’t know he’d be starting until the last minute against City, largely removing the chance for a long, slow buildup of nerves. Not to mention a game at the Emirates will be a rather different situation than starting at home for a Liverpool local.

Still, when you watch how well he played against City in all aspects of the game, and then you look at Liverpool’s fullback situation, it’s hard not to hope that he does get a second start in a row. Especially when the only other option is Carragher sitting in his own half as a theoretical right back and hoofing the ball down the pitch while Sotirios Kyrgiakos sits in at center back and waits for the perfect opportunity to hand Arsenal a penalty kick.

Losing weight is not only good for the waistline, it is good for the brain. Scientists say substantial weight loss improves cognitive functions like memory and concentration. Researchers carried out tests on 150 volunteers, all weighing over 21 stone, and compared them with results from healthy people.

In some tests, including memory exams, almost a quarter of the overweight participants scored low enough to be considered learning disabled. Many of them had additional health problems, such as high blood pressure, type two diabetes and sleep apnea. After the initial round of testing, two-thirds of the volunteers had gastric bypass surgery to reduce the size of the stomach and lost an average of about 3st 8lbs.

After 12 weeks, they all took the tests again and the group that lost weight boosted their scores, particularly those involving memory, significantly. They also showed great improvement in organisational skills. The 41 obese volunteers who declined the surgery ended up with even worse results. Professor John Gunstad, of Kent State University, Ohio, said the research showed obesity can damage the brain, ‘especially the parts most important for paying attention and learning new things’.

In the study the researchers also used magnetic resonance imaging to see inside their subjects’ brains. The obese subjects tended to have damage to a particular substance that surrounds and insulates nerve fibres in the brain, suggesting that substance is needed for optimal cognitive function.

Take a seat. The physical act of sitting will also bring down the heightened emotions. Ask questions. Don't jump to conclusions, and don't assume you understand what's behind his actions. Ask questions in a noncombative tone, like "Why do you think this happened?" or "Can you explain that again?"

Don't namecall. It's OK to be mad, but not to be mean. If you want a respectful conversation, you have to first listen to him with respect.

Find a solution together. Don't just argue – in order to stop a pattern, you have to talk about the root of the problem and make a plan for the future. If he's mad because you have shared information he'd like to keep between the two of you, have him explain what he considers private, and make a promise to keep those topics private in the future.

Go to bed angry. You can't be logical if you are circling the same argument at 2 in the morning. If you haven't arrived at a solution by bedtime, agree to leave the disagreement until the morning. Odds are, you'll wake up in a better frame of mind.

Leave the past in the past. Don't rehash unresolved issues in the middle of a new argument. Settle the current problem first, then go back and work on other issues.

Liverpool Football Club broke their club record for the amount paid for a player twice in quick succession late on during this past January 2011 transfer window.

First it was the purchase of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez from Ajax, for a then club record £22.8m and then very shortly after that, this record was well and truly smashed. The acquisition of England's hottest new striking prospect, Andy Carroll from Newcastle United for a whooping £35m lifted the bar to staggering heights.

So Liverpool Football Club have a new attacking partnership that really makes the mouth water at it's potential.

Anfield has seen some thrilling strike partnership in its illustrious past, none more potent and acclaimed than their own 'Batman and Robin', in the form of John Toshack and Kevin Keegan.

Toshack and Keegan were the epitome of the perfect dynamic duo, the 'big man - small man' act and their potency was a demonstration of their relationship.

There was even a shocking photo of the two of them kitted out in the famous 'Batman and Robin' outfits that should never be again be put on public display! (Can be seen in the John Toshack Tribute video!)

Such was the rapport struck up by Toshack and Keegan that many thought it was almost a telepathic understanding that the two had. There was the now famous 'Telepathic Test' that Granada TV set up to put this to the test.

The two sat opposite each other and one would hold up a card with a symbol on it that the other could not see. Shockingly, they were able to telepathically send a message to the other and he identified the symbol correctly each time.

So telepathy proved; well not quite, as it was an elaborate and hilarious hoax done with cleverly placed mirrors! But this did nothing to dampen the idea that Toshack and Keegan were somehow in tune to each other's thoughts on the football pitch. (Can be seen in the John Toshack Tribute video)

John Toshack was signed by Bill Shankly in late 1970 from Cardiff City for a massive £110,000. Already a full Welsh international, Toshack was by no means a giant, standing at 185cm (or just over 6'1) but his aerial ability was second to none.

Kevin Keegan was signed just under a year later from Scunthorpe United for a fraction of what Shankly forked out for Toshack earlier; at £35,000 it was less than a third of Toshack's fee.

Fans and supporters were left open mouthed and agast at the price Liverpool paid for Toshack. But he was to cement himself as an Kop hero with his first goal for the Reds in his second game. It came in an epic Merseyside derby at Anfield; with the Reds trailing 0-2, Steve Heighway pulled one back to make it 1-2. But it was Toshack's equaliser that energised and revitalised the Reds and they went on to grab the winner with the big Welshman being credited for turning the game around.

The fans' initial shock at Toshack's transfer fee was quickly forgotten with just his first goal for the club. Fans have made similar noises at the signing of another 'big man' in Andy Carroll, but if he can get an early goal then his record transfer fee will no longer be what everyone talks about too.

Keegan was originally bought as a midfielder but Shankly soon saw the partnership forging between the big Welshman and the comparatively smaller Englishman.

Toshack was phenomenal in the air and Keegan just seemed to know where the knock downs were going, or was it that Toshack knew where Keegan would run to? Their classic 'little and large' act is one of the most famous in football history and the template for future similar acts.

Toshack, himself was also more than simply a provider; he himself scored a highly commendable 96 goals in his 246 appearances for the Reds.

Keegan scored exactly 100 goals in his 230 Liverpool appearances before moving on to Hamburg and a vast majority of these were thanks to his strike partner's aerial prowess.

The shorter Englishman was blessed with a dogged determination to get on to knock downs, but also had amazing levels of fitness. His knack of knowing where the goal was, is something that all great strikers have.

Keegan was also surprisingly a good dribbler with the ball and header himself, but it was in and around the box that he came into his own. Additionally, he was a great leader and inspiration to his fellow team mates with an infectious enthusiasm, a huge heart and massive personality.

He stood for all that his manager, Shankly, stood for. It was almost as if Shankly could have cloned a player that embodied his ethos on how the game should be played, then Keegan would have been the result.

Toshack and Keegan led Liverpool's front line scoring a combined 196 goals and winning three League Championships, two UEFA Cups, one FA Cup and one European Cup.

A fantastic record that the new Liverpool strike partnership, that is being compared to Toshack and Keegan, have to live up to and exceed.

Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll are Liverpool's latest 'little and large' double act. Certainly, Suarez and Carroll rolls off the tongue almost as easily and smoothly as Toshack and Keegan, but do these two rookies have what it takes to surpass this great Liverpool dynamic duo of yester years.

To achieve this feat, Suarez and Carroll will need to win over the Kop and this will be done by a combination of hard work, willingness to fight and most importantly for strikers; goals.

Carroll is as formidable in the air as Toshack ever was, however, the one thing that the Welshman had going for him during his playing days, was the referees. In Toshack's playing days a big man could really throw himself about without the referees blowing for fouls every other minute.

However, Carroll seems to be able to frighten the life out of defenders even without the aid of a lenient referee. The Englishman has raw power and his physical all action style of play has won him an army of those that admire him and as many, if not more, that fear him.

As with Toshack, Carroll has more strings to his bow than just being a big target man; as Toshack did, Carroll has speed, quick feet and a rocket shot (as Liverpool found out when he scored a screamer in their previous meeting). But Toshack's goals are there for all to see and Carroll will need to be at his best to get past the 96 the Welshman knocked in.

However, Carroll talent is growing and if he progresses as hoped and with the attributes he possesses, it could well be that he goes on to match or even better the Liverpool legend he is being compared to.

Luis Suarez is without doubt one of the most skillful and exciting talents to be brought into Liverpool Football Club since John Barnes. Such are the skills that this exciting player has in his locker, that we could be on the verge of seeing a new No.7 Liverpool legend.

As Keegan had, Suarez also has a deft touch, magical skills, can pick a pass, a superb shot, great dribbling ability and supreme confidence. Having scored on his debut, the Uruguayan has become an instant hit.

Suarez is not short on confidence as his first Liverpool goal illustrated. Not not just a simple tap in but taking on and rounding the goalkeeper in a one on one. Anyway, the Uruguayan scoring record is one that would be hard pushed to be better by anyone, so he has every reason to be comfortable and poised in front of goal.

Suarez has so many traits similar to those of Keegan.

Suarez and Carroll have all the potential to be Liverpool's new Toshack and Keegan. The two strike partnership have a remarkable resemblance to each other.

Carroll has everything Toshack had and Suarez play bears a uncanny similarity to Keegan's. This would suggest that Suarez and Carroll have every chance of becoming another lethal Liverpool strike partnership akin in more ways than one to Toshack and Keegan.

Whether Suarez and Carroll go on to become Liverpool's new Toshack and Keegan, one thing is for certain, if they do then the glory days at Anfield will certainly be back and back with a bang.

How to slipstream SATA drivers in HP Mini 110-3000

I am going to teach on how to slipstream using nLite program. Usually this happens when your Windows XP CD does not have any SATA driver in it. When try booting from the CD, the setup doesnt detect the SATA harddisk. Sometimes blue screen will come out when the CD is starting the Windows.

First download the N-Lite software. Then download the SATA driver. In my case i am installing Windows XP in HP Mini 110-3000 which needs a recognize SATA driver for Intel. Download here. After finish installing N-Lite, create a folder and copy all files in your Windows XP CD into the folder.

Run N-Lite program.

Click Next and it will ask you the Windows XP files. Select the folder contain the XP files from CD.

After selecting the folder, it will scan your type XP version example Service Pack and etc.

Just click Next.

In this case i select Drivers and Bootable ISO(which later i can burn the image onto CD).

Click Insert to select the SATA driver to slipstream. I prefer select Multiple Driver folder.

In above step, click the button Make ISO. It will prompt you where to save the ISO file.

Wait until the process finished and click next. Now you can burn the ISO file and boot from your newly created CD.

Having problem with blue screen of death?! Everything happens for a reasons. So does this blue screen problem. If you are experiencing blue screen which cause by registry failure, i will show how its done.

First of all, boot from Windows XP cd. Select option "To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R".Then select which partition installed with Windows XP.

Change directory to windows folder. Then type command below. Depends on which registry that are corrupt, absent or damage. Example if your software registry failed to load.

Intel has presented the new hierarchy of its processors with three classes. The entry level processors are the core i3 series, mid level processors are core i5 series and high end ones are the core i7 processors. Let us see how these three processor lines differ in terms of technical specifications and performance.

Core i3 Vs i5 Vs i7: Technical Specification

Let us begin with the core i3 line. Core i3 5xx (Clarkdale) series launched in January 2010 consists of three processors (i3-530, i3-540 and i3-550) with a clocking frequency ranging from 2933 MHz to 3200 MHz. All three processors have a 2x256 KB L2 cache, 4MB L3 smart cache with DMI (direct media interface) bus and are fitted with the new LGA 1156 socket. All three processors have two cores and an integrated GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) and are based on a 32 nm architecture which enables more transistors to be placed on a chip compared to the earlier 45 nm architecture.

The processors have two cores and four threads backed by Intel's hyperthreading and virtualization technology that enhances the multitasking ability of these chips. All in all, the core i3 series is a great entry level chip that offers all that a home user needs including high quality 3D graphics and great multitasking ability. The price for all the chips is around $133. Other than these processors Intel has developed i3, i5 and i7 lines for mobile phones too.

Now let us move to the second part of our core i3 vs i5 vs i7 comparison and discuss the core i5 line of processors. This family of processors consists of three lines of processors which include the core i5 7xx, core i5 7xxS and core i5 6xx series. They have processor clocking frequencies ranging from 2.4 GHz to 3.33 GHz which can be enhanced by Intel's new Turbo Boost technology. Some processors have 4 cores with 4 threads (core i5-7xx and core i5-7xxS Lynnfield series) and some with 2 cores and 4 threads (core i5- 6xx Clarkdale Series with hyperthreading disabled). Gay prince killed servant during sex?

A Saudi prince strangled and beat his male servant to death during an apparent sex attack in a London hotel room, a British court heard Wednesday.

Saud Bin Abdulaziz Bin Nasir al Saud, 34, a member of the Saudi royal family, denied murdering 32-year-old Bandar Abdullah Abdulaziz on February 15 at the Landmark Hotel.

Prosecutor Jonathan Laidlaw told the Old Bailey in London that Saud admitted killing his servant.

The jury now has to decide whether the prince is guilty of murder or manslaughter.

Laidlaw said the victm was found beaten and strangled in bed in a room he was sharing with the prince.

Injuries including bite marks to the servant's cheeks revealed the "ferocity of the attack to which he had been subjected", which had happened when the pair were alone, said Laidlaw.

The prosecution went on to claim the prince had attacked his servant on several previous occasions, including one that was caught on CCTV in the hotel's lift in January.

Saud had claimed the pair were friends and that he was heterosexual, but "the evidence establishes quite conclusively that he is either gay or that he has homosexual tendencies," the prosecutor said.

"The defendant's concealing of the sexual aspect to his abuse of the victim was for altogether more sinister reasons and it tends to suggest that there was a sexual element to the circumstances of the killing," Laidlaw said.

The prince, who appeared in the dock with a shaven head and listening through an interpreter, also denies causing his servant grievous bodily harm.

United States sues Visa, MasterCard and American Express

The Justice Department on Monday sued the three largest U.S. credit card companies for anticompetitive practices and reached a proposed settlement with two of them, MasterCard and Visa.

"We want to put more money in consumers' pockets, and by eliminating credit card companies' anticompetitive rules, we will accomplish exactly that," Attorney General Eric Holder told an afternoon news conference.

"The companies put merchants and their customers in a no-win situation" and "consumers are being held hostage."

At the same time, the Justice Department filed a settlement it has reached with Visa and MasterCard. Court approval of such settlements is usually a formality.

Under the settlement, Visa and MasterCard agree not to prohibit merchants from offering customers discounts or rebates for using a particular kind of card.

Visa and MasterCard also must allow merchants to express preferences for the use of a low-cost card within a network or other form of payment.

The lawsuit says the card companies are impeding merchants from promoting the use of competing credit or charge cards with lower acceptance fees.

Each time consumers use a credit card to make a purchase, the merchant must pay a fee.

Such fees brought in $35 billion last year to the three credit card companies and their affiliated banks.

"We're partway there" with the proposed agreement with Visa and MasterCard, Assistant Attorney General Christine Varney, head of the department's antitrust division, told the news conference.

"We remain open" to seek a settlement with American Express," Varney added.

At mid-afternoon, shares of American Express were down more than 6 percent; Mastercard was down less than 1 percentage point, and Visa was up less than half a percentage point.

Network Problem cause by looping cable

This is one of the most challenging problem i have to face. The campus network that i manage use 3Com 4400 switches. One day, all of the sudden the network becomes so damn slow, more packet loss and slow internet connection. Currently there was a network cable contractor who was doing some work on adding network node.

I try to use WireShark to find what going on in the network. Nothing found or to be exact i didn't understand at all what is displayed in the WireSHark. So i decide to check where were the cable contractor work on the day the problem occurs. I check the 3Com 4400 switch on the each place where the cable contractor work at. Pull in and out the cable from the switch. Luck on my side as when i pull out one cable, there were two port stop blinking. From there i am pretty sure this mess is cause by LOOPING CABLE.

I am not sure whether the STP are configured correctly in the switch. For more info go here.

Cucumber beetles, June beetles, bark beetles, stink bugs, leafhoppers, cutworm moths, corn earworm moths, armyworm moths, termites, assassin bugs, ants, roaches, crickets, and grasshoppers are just some of the many pests known to be consumed by America's bats. Yet, bat populations are in alarming decline due to decades of unwarranted human fear and persecution.

As traditional roosts in trees and caves have been destroyed, many of North America's bats have been forced to seek shelter in man-made structures. An understanding of the habits of these beneficial animals can help solve problems that sometimes develop when bats roost in buildings. The following pages provide details about safe, effective methods for permanently evicting bats from buildings when necessary. These methods help ensure the safety of both humans and bats.

What if you find a bat in your home?

On occasion, a solitary bat may accidentally fly into a home, garage or other building through an open door or window. Such incidents often involve lost youngsters whose primary goal is a safe escape. As long as no direct contact with the bat has occurred, it can be released outside. These bats will usually leave on their own if a window or door to the outside is opened while others leading to the rest of the building are closed. Bats are rarely aggressive, even if chased, but may bite if handled. As with any wild animal, bats should not be touched with bare hands, and anyone bitten should immediately seek medical consultation.

If a bat does not leave your home on its own, its exit can be hastened by waiting until it lands, and then covering it with a small box or other container. Wait until the animal is motionless. A bat that is flying is almost impossible to catch, and you have a greater chance of injuring the bat if you attempt to capture it while it is airborne. In addition, bats that are caught while flying frequently panic and attempt to bite. Wait until the bat lands and is still Quietly approach the bat, and wearing thick gloves or using a thick towel, gently gather the bat up and place it into a box or similar container with a lid. Or instead, simply place a box, waste can, coffee can or similar object over the bat where it has landed. Then, take a piece of cardboard and gently slide it between the box and the surface the bat is on. Keeping the cardboard in place, gently turn the container right side up. Release the bat outdoors at nightfall. Take a flashlight and a towel or gloves with you in case the bat has problems flying away. Find an elevated area (such as a deck or ladder), lift the box over your head, and tilt it to the side so the bat can fly out. Do not release the bat during the day or during cold or bad weather. Use the flashlight to watch the bat fly away. If the bat does not fly away, or attempts to fly but seems unable to, it is likely that is has an injury or illness. It may be a disoriented juvenile, or it may simply be dehydrated or starved from being trapped indoors. If this is the case, use the towel or gloves (not bare hands) to gather the bat up. Keep the bat in the closed container and put it in a safe place that is free of children, pets, fire ants or other hazards. Call a local wildlife rehabilitator for assistance.

Where do bats roost in buildings?
Bats may roost in attics, soffits, louvers, chimneys, under siding, eaves, roof tiles or shingles and behind shutters (see diagram). In sports stadiums and parking garages, bats sometimes roost in expansion joints between concrete beams. They can enter through openings as small as one-half inch in diameter (1.3 cm). Common points of entry include open windows or doors, broken or poorly-fitted screens, loose or missing shingles or tiles, places where flashing or boards have come loose and locations where pipes or wiring enter buildings. Openings often occur where walls meet the eaves at the gable ends of an attic, where porches attach to the main part of a house, or where dormers meet the roof. Other points of entry are associated with siding.

For example, cracks and crevices are often created where siding forms corners, or at places where it meets windows, doors or chimneys (see diagram). Bats can sometimes be detected by the presence of black or brown stains from body oils or droppings around cracks or crevices formed by ill-fitting building materials. Bat droppings may also appear on walls, under porches or decks, or on floors beneath dilapidated ceilings. Bat droppings are dark and do not contain any white material. Although they may resemble small hard rodent pellets, bat droppings are soft and easily crushed, revealing shiny insect parts.

18th-Century Ship Found at Trade Center Site

In the middle of tomorrow, a great ribbed ghost has emerged from a distant yesterday.

On Tuesday morning, workers excavating the site of the underground vehicle security center for the future World Trade Center hit a row of sturdy, upright wood timbers, regularly spaced, sticking out of a briny gray muck flecked with oyster shells.

Obviously, these were more than just remnants of the wooden cribbing used in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to extend the shoreline of Manhattan Island ever farther into the Hudson River. (Lower Manhattan real estate was a precious commodity even then.)

“They were so perfectly contoured that they were clearly part of a ship,” said A. Michael Pappalardo, an archaeologist with the firm AKRF, which is working for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to document historical material uncovered during construction.

By Wednesday, the outlines made it plain: a 30-foot length of a wood-hulled vessel had been discovered about 20 to 30 feet below street level on the World Trade Center site, the first such large-scale archaeological find along the Manhattan waterfront since 1982, when an 18th-century cargo ship came to light at 175 Water Street.

The area under excavation, between Liberty and Cedar Streets, had not been dug out for the original trade center. The vessel, presumably dating from the mid- to late 1700s, was evidently undisturbed more than 200 years.

News of the find spread quickly. Archaeologists and officials hurried to the site, not only because of the magnitude of the discovery but because construction work could not be interrupted and because the timber, no longer safe in its cocoon of ooze, began deteriorating as soon as it was exposed to air.

For that reason, Doug Mackey, the chief regional archaeologist for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, was grateful for the rainfall. “If the sun had been out,” he said, “the wood would already have started to fall apart.”

As other archaeologists scrambled with tape measures over what appeared to be the floor planks of the ship’s lowermost deck, Mr. Mackey said, “We’re trying to record it as quickly as possible and do the analysis later.” All around the skeletal hull, excavation for the security center proceeded, changing the muddy terrain every few minutes.

Romantics may conjure the picture of an elegant schooner passing in sight of the spire of Trinity Church. Professional archaeologists are much more reserved.

They were even careful not to say for certain whether they were looking at the prow or the stern of the vessel, though the fanlike array of beams seemed to suggest that the aft (rear) portion of the ship was exposed. Mr. Pappalardo said the whole vessel may have been two or three times longer than the portion found.

Perhaps the most puzzling and intriguing find was a semicircular metal collar, several feet across, apparently supported on a brick base, built into the hull. Perhaps it was some sort of an oven or steam contraption.

About the farthest Mr. Mackey and Mr. Pappalardo would go in conjecture was to say that the sawed-off beams seemed to indicate that the hull had deliberately been truncated, most likely to be used as landfill material.

A 1797 map shows that the excavation site is close to where Lindsey’s Wharf and Lake’s Wharf once projected into the Hudson. So, no matter how many mysteries now surround the vessel, it may turn out that the ghost even has a name.

RapidShare wins important copyright victory in the United States

RapidShare AG has won an important victory in a copyright lawsuit against it in the United States. The case is Perfect 10, Inc. v. RapidShare AG, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California (San Diego).

Perfect 10 is an adult entertainment company and a very experienced copyright plaintiff, which has brought many lawsuits against a variety of companies including VISA, MasterCard, CCBill, Google, Amazon.com, and Microsoft. Perfect 10 remains in a long-running battle with Google, Inc., over Google's search engine and other services.

Perfect 10 sought a preliminary injunction in the US to prevent RapidShare from hosting images that Perfect 10 alleges to violate Perfect 10's copyrights. Perfect 10 sought to discredit RapidShare and its business model.

On May 18, 2010, the court refused to grant a preliminary injunction, denying Perfect 10's request. The court ruled that Perfect 10 had not shown that it was likely to win any of its claims against RapidShare for copyright infringement or unfair competition. The court noted that Perfect 10 showed a lack of interest in self-help measures. Other than through its lawsuit, Perfect 10 had not identified any download links to RapidShare that would have enabled RapidShare's Abuse Department to disable access to the allegedly infringing files. The Court urged Perfect 10 to work with RapidShare to provide proper notices that would enable RapidShare's Abuse Department to address Perfect 10's concerns.

Christian Schmid, founder of RapidShare AG, said that "it is gratifying that the court rejected Perfect 10's motion and recognized that RapidShare does not promote copyright infringement. It is an achievement for us that this is also happening in the U.S. We look forward to increasingly emphasizing the major difference between RapidShare and other companies. RapidShare offers a valuable platform for cloud computing, does not promote unlawful activity on its website, and provides copyright holders rapid service in addressing proper claims of infringement relating to RapidShare users."

The company's Abuse Department has one of the fastest records for responding to take down requests submitted by copyright owners, uses a hash filter to block uploads of files identified as unauthorized, and has a policy of terminating repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances. In addition, RapidShare has taken legal action against third party sites that publish links to unauthorized material. File hosting company wins appeals procedure (Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf)

Cham, May 3, 2010. RapidShare AG has won its appeal against Capelight Pictures in the Court of Appeals Düsseldorf, Germany (Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf). Prior to this, plaintiff had obtained a preliminary injunction against RapidShare at Düsseldorf's district court (Landgericht Düsseldorf), by which the file hosting company was enjoined from hosting certain movies its clients had uploaded. This judgment has now been reversed by the Appellate Court.

Christian Schmid, founder of RapidShare: "We are very happy about the judgment. The court has confirmed that RapidShare is not responsible for the contents of files uploaded by its users. The judgment shows that attempts to denounce our business model as illegal will not be successful in the long run. With its 1-click-filehosting model, RapidShare responds to legitimate interests of its users and will continue to do so in the future."

RapidDonations enters the next phase

Our project "RapidDonations" has now been online for a little bit more than one month, and thus the first collecting phase is complete. We are glad that the donations have reached the goal of 10'000 Euros for all three organizations.

False reports confuse RapidShare customers

During the last couple of days some e-mails created confusion, imputing illegal activities to the recipients and stating that RapidShare was collecting data against the Privacy Policy for legal purposes. The e-mails also advised the users to seek legal council. These emails are faked and did not originate from us. If you have received such a message, please contact our support, because your Premium Account might have been "phished". The fake e-mails are sent to keep you from contacting us.

In fact, nothing has changed at RapidShare over the last days. We are still not collecting any information about which user downloads which files. We are still successfully fighting in court against requests to open or scan our customers' files, be it by our staff or by use of content recognition technologies. We are still defending data privacy rights on the internet.

Of course, you still have to comply with our terms and conditions. If content owners bring to our attention that some of our customers have obviously distributed pirated copies of their content repeatedly or at a large scale, we reserve the right to close these accounts without previous notice.

Just For Laughs Gags is a Canadian silent comedy show that is under the Just For Laughs brand. JFL Gags airs on CBC Television and The Comedy Network in Canada, and on Telemundo in the United States. This series' format is the typical hidden camera comedy show, playing silly pranks on unsuspecting subjects while hidden cameras capture the people's response (similar to UK hidden camera comedy shows). This show plays music in the background, but does not contain any sound and dialogue (except for brief sound effects and laughter) but you can occasionally hear the actors and victims talking. It is filmed in downtown Montreal and rural Québec although some segments are filmed in the UK or Mexico. Sound effects, music and a laugh track are added in post-production.

The Just For Laughs Gags formula has been used by the BBC for UK audiences. However, the formula has been used before Gags did, such as Candid Camera and The Tonight Show though both of these shows used a large amount of dialogue.

A sister version of the show is produced in Northern Ireland and is called simply Just For Laughs. Most of the show is filmed in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland; Leeds, England and Glasgow, Scotland; however, some clips are shown from the Canadian show. The format of the show, however, is identical to that of the version filmed in Canada. The British version is produced by Wild Rover Productions Ltd [1] and was broadcast on BBC One in Saturday teatime slot (usually between 5 - 6 pm). March 17 (Bloomberg) -- Facebook Inc., the world’s largest social-networking site, surpassed Google Inc.’s search engine in weekly hits to become the most visited Web site in the U.S. for the first time, according to research firm Hitwise.

Facebook.com accounted for 7.07 percent of visits in the week ended March 13, topping Google.com’s 7.03 percent, New York-based Hitwise said in a March 15 blog post. Facebook almost tripled its visits from a year earlier, compared with 9 percent growth at Google, the most popular search engine.

Facebook, started in 2004, has lured users by adding games and making it easier to check messages, notifications and friend requests. To compete, Google added a social-networking feature called Buzz to its Gmail e-mail service last month, allowing users to share photos, comments and clips from its YouTube video site. The company is considering building a version that works outside of Gmail.

Google, based in Mountain View, California, climbed $5.39 to $570.59 at 11:43 a.m. New York time on the Nasdaq Stock market. Before today, the shares had dropped 8.8 percent this year. Closely held Facebook is based in Palo Alto, California.

Google and Facebook representatives didn’t immediately respond to e-mailed requests for comment.
